WHO IS TRISH? Never did use last names…
ok, so who am I? This is a question I have contemplated for many years. Finally, after going to 6 different 10 day vipassana silent meditation retreats,
I know who I am.
At 17 years old, the walls of my bedroom were covered with pictures of horses and models from Vogue and Elle magazines. Later, I became a woman with horses and models; fashion playing a major part of my life. Just what I wanted!
I became a dental hygienist in college. I liked the money and worked part time designing clothing in the other bedroom of my rented home, all while living in Chicago and then Southern California.
But fate intervened as it often does, and I broke my arm riding my horse in a thunderstorm. This ended not only my job as a dental hygienist, but also my part-time modeling career for some years. Now what?
I designed a collection with my cast on! It went to Chicago and sold at a boutique, just like that. I went on to design for rock and roll bands (I loved that!) I always designed while working part-time as a dental hygienist for years until fate intervened again and I met the love of my life at yet another vipassana 10 day silent retreat. Another miracle in my life of miracles….
He was Canadian, so off we went to Vancouver. Then back to Laguna Beach and played ping pong with the seasons; all the while I created designs and sold them to people everywhere. I just love to create!
Why do I do this? Because I love the feeling of the joy, silence, and flow that I feel when I create. It is my joy and my gift; my being way of just being! The Wu Wei… When the Dancer becomes the dance.
So knowing that I wanted horses and a ranch in the Malibu area, I created a company called Hotskins Bodywear, and somehow (with a whole lot of help and support from my lover/best friend) became successful with it in about 50 countries! During the rise of the fitness industry of the 90’s I rode my wave of success. I received the honor of Designer of the Year in my field for creating the “Anatomical Fit”
–THE ONLY BETTER FIT IS THE ONE YOU WERE BORN WITH –
I created some 8 new fashion trends in the industry and received over 40 magazine covers. The transformation in all this success for me was to open up to all the blessings being showered upon me. To feel and dance with the gratitude of this moment, for it will never ‘BE’ again… So I did; I enjoyed the incredible ride, always learning how to come back to gratitude every time.
We were definitely not business people, but we did well anyway. We traveled to India to meditate; we traveled all over the world with my fashion company for 15 years…
And I finally got my horses and my ranch in Topanga Canyon. And then 15 years later, we left the coast and sold my company. We were headed for a new adventure in the wilderness of Taos, New Mexico. So here I am. Happy, content even! (Which I never thought was possible for me… ever…) I find myself now, how I actually love to reside in my body and just be. Wow! I pet my big dogs and ride my horses every day and breathe the air at 7,500 ft…. and it’s beautiful.
So here I am on a ranch, way outside of town and lovin’ life. I adore the Southwestern style; I wanted a deerskin jacket for myself, but I couldn’t find one that was quite right. So I made one, of course! A friend saw me in it and asked,
“Where did you get that?!”
When she heard I had made it, she asked me if I would be willing to make another one for myself and sell her the one I was wearing since it fit her so well….
I did. And then I did it again 50 more times. The first 50 jackets were sold because I made one for myself, and sold it off my own back while wearing the thing.
I realized that I could not stop creating. I retired way early from the business world, (I love that!) and it has come full circle. I design for the joy of it (and to pay for the hay bill for the horses). I am such a consumer! If it’s not jasmine oil, then it’s a new herb or a new book or Bob Dylan CD…
BUT THAT IS THE FLOW OF LIFE AND MONEY….
I love money and all the things you can do with it. So many good things…
Like adopting elephants! I adopt an elephant on my birthday every year. I love elephants. I love the Ho’oponopono prayer. I love the book, The Untethered Soul, written by Michael Singer. I love Conversations with God, written by Donald Walsh.
I love a lot of things in life.
And I love my husband’s books…he walks the walk and talks the talk.
His books are on quantumyou.com. Check ’em out.
So, in conclusion, I hope you find a way to
ENJOY YOUR LIFE. IT IS THE ONLY ONE YOU HAVE.
Love, Trish.
